A few days ago we shared a post on how to bathe your baby. But since we like to expand the information to make these moments easier we leave you an article where you will find a list with all the products that can help you for that moment. We have tried to be as accurate as possible so that you can decide which products may be suitable for you and which may not.

-CHANGERS:

Changers should be chosen according to:

1.-The space where it will be used. There are different types of changers to change Bañar-al-bebediaper the baby and dress it:

  • Foldable, which can be hung on the wall, or has metal legs
  • Using the tabletop expander for the dresser
  • Adapters for any flat horizontal surface
  • Changing mat
  • Crib changing table

(If it is a boy it is better to change it horizontally if it is a vertical girl)

2.- the correct height: changing a baby is one of the most frequently performed actions, so it is very important to respect the correct position of the back and legs to avoid ending up with a major injury.

3.-Amplitude: A changing table must allow you to store all the items necessary for changing the diaper without leaving the baby alone (diapers, creams, wipes, cloths, towels, necessary clothing ...)

4.-Soft and comfortable surface. The changing mat you choose should have a surface that is comfortable for the baby. The most common is to use a changing mat foam. This surface is usually covered with towels or covers so that it is always clean (they must be easy to wash)

- DIAPER: If you want you can buy the first box of diapers so that when you get home you have enough for at least a week. Diapers are something very personal, so the best thing is that you try different brands and appreciate which one is best suited to your baby.

- BATHTUBS:

Although bathtubs are an item for temporary use, you should not fail to pay attention to:

  • Safety: For a bathtub to be safe it must:baño-bebe
  • have a stable structure
  • the material must be durable thermoplastic (polypropylene) that does not deform with temperatures and the passage of time
  • All parts of the bathtub (including external parts) must be washable or accessible for cleaning.
  • The bottom must be as smooth as possible to avoid accumulation of dirt and avoid chafing the baby
  • Slip resistant
  • The materials and paints used must be non-toxic.
  • Comfort: Comfort should be important to both parties:
  • Baby:
  • It must be anatomical so that the baby can feel comfortable sitting down and not slide by submerging in the water.
  • The size should match that of the baby so that it is not too large (needs to feel collected) or too small (which does not allow movements)
  • Parents:
  • Filling the tub should be an easy task. If the tap or shower head is near much better.
  • It must have a hole in the bottom with a stopper in order to comfortably empty it in the WC or in the bathtub. The capacity of a bathtub is usually 10 to 20 liters, so emptying it has to be an easy task so as not to spill the water on the floor and prevent possible weight injuries. The stopper must be secure so that the baby cannot remove it with his hands or with a simple kick.
  • The position of the parents' body while using the bathtub must be correct so as not to force while washing, holding or taking the baby safely.

  • Functionality and space: There are different bathtub structures, simple or adapted to a structure (metal, wood or folding). It should be easy to transport, place, fill and store. It will depend on the space you choose to bathe the baby, if you want to use the family's bathroom area, if you have a shower or bathtub.

TYPES OF BATHTUBS:

  • traditional: they are those that can rest on any flat horizontal surface that can be the home bathtub. These bathtubs currently have a non-slip bottom and also usually make them with supports so that the baby stays upright. If not, you can use a hammock for the bathroom.
  • adaptable to the home bathtub: They are bathtubs that are placed over the adult bathtub so that the height is perfect to maintain a correct position when bathing the baby. It also has the advantage that it is easier to fill / empty and if the baby likes to splash the water, it usually ends up in the bathtub and not on the floor, thus reducing the risk of slipping.
  • inflatable: This can also be used inside or outside the home bathtub. It is very practical for traveling. You have to take into account when saving it. There are some bebe-bañerainflatable bathtubs that have suction cups to be able to stick it on the wall when storing it.
  • folding: It is a good option for small bathrooms. Rigid plastic bathtub that allows it to fold longitudinally, taking up very little space. It usually has the capacity of 39 liters. A bath support (hammock) can be used for younger babies.
  • with folding metal frame: Plastic bathtub with metal support that sometimes also has a changing table. They are very comfortable because they are installed anywhere in the house and also leave the baby at the perfect height to have a good back position. They usually take up a lot of space, even if they are folded.
  • bathtub / changing table cabinet: Mainly it saves a lot of space since they are usually a changing table / bathtub / chest of drawers. In this case, the time that the bathtub is going to be used must be valued, since when the baby is older he will want to play and when installed in his room the space will be unused for a while.
  • PUJ bathtub: Fits the sink. The technique of washing the baby is the same as that used in hospitals. It has the position of the parents' arms to make the baby more comfortable. It is a good option when the baby is very young. The posture for parents is comfortable since the height is perfect not to force.
  • BabyDam: bathtub reducer as a barrier to water. It adjusts in the bathtub at home, according to the size of the baby, with suction cups. It can be adjusted in bathtubs of different sizes. It is a good way to save water
  • Tummy-tub: Bathtub in the shape of a bucket. Indicated from birth helps to relax the baby because when it is introduced it adopts the fetal position to which it is accustomed. It is a good option for premature babies. By maintaining the water temperature for 20 minutes we can wait for the baby to relax his sphincter and thus combat colic. One of the drawbacks is that it can be used up to 8kg (approximately 10 months)
  • evolutionary bathtub: perfect from 0 to 18 months because it allows the baby to use the bathtub according to their age. Initially the baby can be stretched, from 6 to 12 months, the baby can be seated thanks to a ring that tightens and fastens to the bottom of the bathtub and from 12 months, you can enjoy the entire space of the bathtub.
  • Hammock for home bathtub: To take advantage of the bathtub or shower tray at home you can use this non-slip hammock that is fixed with suction cups. If the bathtub is very large it can be used together with the Baby Dam press-

-BATHROOM RING:This item is a useful item when the baby is able to stay seated by himself (approximately from 6-9 months). It usually consists of:

  • a base with suction cups that remain attached to the base of the bathtub
  • a backrest for the child to lean on
  • a front part that supports the baby so that it cannot slide.

It is a way to move the baby from his bathtub to the bathtub at home in complete safety, although it is not necessary to go too quickly to make the change because there are children who, the very open space of the bathtub, can cause fear.

BATH HAMMOCK or newborn support: It is a good ally for baby baths until he can stay seated by himself. It is placed in the bathtub you have chosen so that the baby's back is supported on the surface and thus he is safer and parents have the slightly freer hands so you can lather and play with him without fear of slipping.

- COSMETICS FOR BABIES

As we can see, the skin of babies changes from birth until it grows and matures, so before purchasing baby bath products you have to take into account:

  • The most widely used products are those for cleaning, moisturizing and protecting the diaper area. Other treatments may also be required for specific problems such as atopic skin.
  • They should be introduced little by little, observing the reaction of your skin when in contact
  • The products to be used should be mild, hypo-allergenic and if possible organic.
  • In the case of children, there are three characteristics that influence exposure to the products: physiological characteristics, the area of application and behavioral habits (intake of products when sucking the product).
  • Some organs and systems of the child's body are developing and are sensitive to toxic effects.
  • Sensitivity varies according to the age of the child. In this way, it is not only important to expose the child to toxic products, but also at what stage of development he is exposed.

The cosmetic products that you will use the most to clean the baby are:

Cleaning gel: The gels should be Ph Neutral and it is preferable that they contain moisturizing components such as olive, coconut, or avocado oil. Gel lines containing calendula or chamomile are also appropriate for your skin.bebe-espuma

Although bubble baths are great fun for kids, they are usually very aggressive and can cause vaginitis or urinary tract infections. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires manufacturers of these products to specifically label them and to report that baths should be short and infrequent.

Shampoo: The decision of whether to use shampoo for a baby depends on the amount of hair it has or if it is too oily or dry. If you finally choose to use shampoo the best thing is that it is mild, that it does not contain perfumes, dyes or preservatives that can cause irritation or allergies.

If the baby has cradle cap (small fatty scales), you can use a mild shampoo and a brush with very soft bristles to gradually remove it. There are specific shampoos to be able to eliminate it easily or, even, to avoid its formation.

Moisturizing creams and oils: The best thing for moisturizers is that they contain plant extracts such as chamomile, aloe and calendula as they hydrate and have the property of calming the skin. They should be fragrance-free and irritating.

- Products for the diaper area: The diaper area is very prone to problems with infections, rashes, dermatitis or itching due to:

  • the presence of urine causes you to encounter high levels of humidity.
  • The presence of ammonia from faeces and urine leads to an increase in pH.
  • It is an area with high local temperature.

For this reason, special care must be taken as to which products we use because the skin is more sensitive and permeable to toxic substances.

The most used products in this area are:

  • Wipes: This is the star product, although it is recommended that they be used as little as possible, if possible, only when you are away from home. The wipes usually contain alcohol and perfumes which dries and irritates the baby's skin. If you use them, you should avoid those that contain ingredients such as limonene, linalol, citronellol or eugenol. It is preferable to use wipes that contain emollients (chamomile or aloe vera). Whenever possible, it is best to use a sponge with warm water and dry properly.
  • Diaper change ointment: The use of the so-called "diaper cream" should be limited to when there is irritation in the area, in order to heal the skin. If the skin is healthy, it is not necessary to use it every time the diaper is changed, it is better and more effective to change the diaper more often. Clean the area well and dry it, leaving the skin in the air, if possible, before putting on the new diaper. Diaper creams containing calendula, chamomile, sweet almond oil, shea or vitamin F provide a calming effect on the skin and irritation.
  • Talcum powder: Pediatricians do not recommend this product since they contain small particles that can irritate the skin, fragrances that cause allergies and, also, being a volatile substance, it is very easy to inhale and can cause respiratory problems and lung injuries. In girls, talcum powder can contribute to vulvovaginitis.

Laundry detergent: Although the detergent is used to wash clothes, it does not mean that it is not in contact with the baby's skin. Therefore it is important that it is free of perfumes and dyes. You should also not use fabric softeners, or clothing that is worn over your body, or sheets or towels.

-BATH THERMOMETER:

There are digital thermometers (there are those that measure the temperature of the water or the room) and traditional thermometers (a simple thermometer that measures the temperature of the water). It is a good option to measure the perfect temperature of the baby's bath.

-ACCESSORIES:

  • Brush / Comb: You cannot use any brush because it can damage the scalp. The brush for a baby should be with rounded shapes and with soft and very fine bristles.
  • Scissors / manicure set: They must be specific for babies since size is important and they have rounded tips.
  • Nasal aspirators: As babies do not know how to blow their nose, the best alternative is nasal aspirators. There are several types: rubber pear (the rubber part is squeezed creating a vacuum, it is inserted into the nostril, it is released and a suction effect is created), tube + sponge (the widest part is introduced into the nostril and from the other side of the tube is aspirated with the mouth. The force is carried out by the person who sucks in this way can be controlled), electric (includes a motor that sucks the mucus by itself)
  • Sponge: It is important that it is soft so as not to damage the baby's skin. It is recommended that a natural sponge be used (be careful that not all of them are even if they look the same). The mitts or sponges should be dried after the bath because if they are kept wet they favor the proliferation of fungi and bacteria.
  • Towels or bath layers: To continue taking care of the softness of the skin it is important that the fabric of the towels is cotton since they are not so rough.
  • Bath Toys: Bath time is a time of fun and discovery. When buying a bath toy you have to take into account the age, the baby's tastes and the safety controls (toxicity and parts)

-DIAPER CONTAINER:

To keep baby's room free from the smells of dirty diapers, the best solution is the diaper container. There are two types: those that need special bags as spare parts and those that leave the bucket hermetically sealed so that the smell does not come out. Although now it does not seem like something important to you, believe us! Over time you will see that things change.

It will seem like an endless list, but do not worry, you are not going to need everything, even some things you can leave for later.

Any questions you have do not hesitate to contact us. Happy bath! 😉
