One of the questions we meet most often in our stores is:

What is the Plus Test? Does this chair have Plus Test?

The Plus Test was born in Sweden in 2009 from the bodies that are related to road safety such as VTI Y NTF.
The Nordic countries are a reference in child safety and their Plus Test has become one of the most internationally recognized stamps.

A little history

In 1970, before Europe would launch its regulations, the Swedes showed the world a test called T-Test.  It regulated which chairs could be sold on the Swedish market by setting safety minimums. Thus if a specific chair model did not pass its tests, its sale in the country was not authorized. European regulations, however, did not see the light until 1980.

When the European regulation was approved in 2008 ECE R44 the T-Test was repealed and Sweden had to comply with this regulation to equalize trade policies between EU countries. This decision was not well received by Sweden since the requirements of the regulations that were negotiated established very lax safety minimums to be able to approve a car seat. This could lead to opening the door so that manufacturers outside the security world could approve car seats with such a low safety standard that they do not really protect the occupant. So they decided to transform their T. Test into a voluntary test called PLUS TEST. With this new seal they could differentiate European security products and Swedish security products.

What is it based on to be so demanding?

The trial is based on the following criteria:

  • Limit on cervical load: This test is the only one that measures damage in the neck area since in the European only chest and head are measured. The maximum allowed in a Dummy Q3 (representing a 3-year-old boy) is 122kg of load in the neck area. It is located a little below the 130kg limit that we indicated earlier.
  • Much more demanding crash test: They maintain 50km / h, but the braking distance is reduced considerably and goes from the European 900mm to 550mm. Thus, the deceleration increases from 28g to 38g.
Therefore, based on these criteria, no pro-gait chair could pass this test. For example, if we observe:
  • Chairs with front shield in favor of the march. The cervical load would be 200-230kg of cervical load, but it is still very far from the limit set in the Plus Test.
  • Chairs with harness in favor of the march. The load would be 200-250kg to the child's neck. Therefore we are talking about limits well above those tolerated by children under 3 years of age.

What chairs have the Plus Test?

The list of chairs that have passed this test is very limited since only those that are installed in a single way pass: in reverse gear.

If you have the option to also install in favor of the march you will not have Plus Test

Here we leave you a list of the chairs that bear this seal:
